With reference to the letter which you sent to r. Creech Jones' rivate Secretary on the 21st August and the latter's acknowledgment of the 22nd of August, regarding the grievances of certain pre-var non-gazetted members of the hong kong rolice Force, the position is that somewhat similar representations to those made by inspector shepherd were received in the Colonial Office in ay last from several officers on leave in the United ingdom, in the form or a petition to the decretary of state. In accordance with Colonial Regulations, this petition has been sent to the Governor for his consiueration and recommendations. These recommendations will or course be submitted to the Secretary of State on taeir receipt, and I will write again as soon as this has been done.

Yours sincerely,

(sgă) R.W. NEWSAM.
